JCI City Plus in collaboration with Lions Club of Ebene organised the 2nd Edition of the ABC of Investing in the Stock Exchange Conference on the 5th November 2016 at the Ebony Ballroom, Hennessy Park Hotel.
The Seminar was a successful tri-partnership with the government, the private sector and the public. The project aimed at increasing the financial literacy of the public by equipping them with adequate knowledge and risk-assessment tools for them to make their first move to trading on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. Attended by over 170 people of all walks of life, from pilot to unemployed, 73% of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the conference and felt empowered as shared by one of the participants “I now know how to invest in the stock exchange…”. 95% of participants were to recommend the conference to others and this ripple effect will impact even more people. We requested our project partner, Swan to waive off registration fees for opening a stock trader’s account as an incentive for people to be economically active. We met our project objectives and real results were obtained as over 50 participants opened their stock trader’s account. The project also focused on Sustainable investment – JCI City Plus partnered with Omnicane, a country leader who launched the Sustainability Index on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. The participants were given an insight on ethical investments and sustainable practices.
Our speakers were Mr Neeraj Umanee, Mr Alvin Jeeawock and Mr Rajiv Ramlugon who covered the following topics: Stock evaluation, Fund Management and the all new Sustainability Index. The Minister of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reforms, Hon. Roshi Bhadain, G.C.S.K delivered a speech on the theme during the event.
